Happy New Year to all you zebras out there! As I mentioned in my prior post, I will be starting a new exercise routine this year. I hope that it will help me build back up my muscle mass, as well as help me lose the 20 pounds Iโve put on in the last two years. Over the next year, I will be sharing this journey with you! My goal is to post at the beginning of the week my exercise plan for the week, as well as feedback on how the prior weekโs planned workouts went. Iโll be posting the plan at the beginning of each week in case you want to follow along with me! I will be focusing on body weight exercises like Pilates and barre, while trying to get some time in the pool each week. Iโd love to have you join me on this journey!
This is Week One’s post! My goal this week is to start off slow. After my initial EDS diagnosis, my geneticist encouraged me to exercise to help my joints (see this post about the benefits of exercise for those with the EDS Cluster). One thing she made certain to impress upon me, was that we zebras can’t just jump into a new exercise routine. Our bodies cannot handle the shock, and we will do more harm than good.
This week’s plan!
With that in mind, I plan on doing three short workout “sessions” this week. I want to go to the gym to swim in the pool for 20 minutes one day. Then pick two Pilates videos on YouTube that are 15-20 minutes each, and do those on different days. I will be having a rest day between each workout. In other words, I will not be working out two days in a row. My goal is to pick low-impact exercises that will help strengthen the muscles in my legs and arms, without overextending my joints or pushing myself too far.
Do you want to join me on this 2023 fitness journey? I’d love for you to come along! Let me know in the comments if you are joining me.
